If you're a fan of superzoom cameras, you're likely familiar with the Coolpix P900 from 2015. Sporting a record-breaking 83x optical zoom lens, this Coolpix redefined the term "superzoom." Well, Nikon's ready to break their own record with the Nikon P1000. Although it sports the same 16-megapixel, 1/2.3-inch BSI CMOS sensor as the P900, the new P1000 has one heck of a lens sitting out in front: a 125x optical zoom! Yes, that's correct. The Nikon P1000 has a zoom lens with a 35mm-equivalent range of 24-3,000mm. If you're in the market for a do-it-all bridge camera that can go from landscapes to birds, and then to the moon, the Coolpix P1000 is certainly worthy of consideration.

And while the heart of this new camera is similar to its predecessor, the P1000 sports some nice upgrades beyond the new optics. The camera now shoots raw instead of just JPEGs, which advanced photographers will certainly be pleased with. It also offers 4K ultra high-def video at 30fps now, in addition to 1080p60 video. There's also built-in timelapse and superlapse shooting modes, plus full manual exposure controls for video mode, and a clean HDMI output.

The body design gets some upgrades too, with some control tweaks --  a control ring around the lens, a physical AF/MF switch as well as an AE-L/AF-L button. It also gains a Speedlight-compatible hotshoe, an accessory port (WR-R10 remote compatible), and a 3.5mm external mic jack as well as support for a new ML-L7 Bluetooth connected remote.

The Nikon Coolpix P1000 is due to land in stores this September with an estimated retail price of US$1,000 or thereabouts. Needless to say, we can't wait to get our hands on one of these new superzoom cameras, or should we say "ultrazoom"? In the meantime, check out our in-depth Nikon P1000 Preview for all the details about this all-in-one camera!
