Another week, another new episode of Adorama’s Through the Lens video series. If you’re unfamiliar with the series, it is a documentary series created by Sal D’Alia and it focuses on different photographers for each episode. The current season, the series’ sixth, is looking at photographers based in the United States.

We have seen many different types of photographers so far this season, from food photographers to adventure photographers and everything in between. The latest featured photographer is Eric Rubens, an adventure and lifestyle photographer based in southern California. Rubens worked as an engineer and photographer for a while before he found that it was just too much, so he decided to focus solely on photography. One aspect of photography which resonates a lot with Rubens is that many different photographers can head to the same location and photograph the same location in vastly different ways. There’s a lot of creativity afforded to you in photography.

In scenes, Rubens is drawn most to color, vibrancy and light. He sees each of his shots as his own personal art project during editing and processing. In each image, there’s something in particular he wants to emphasize, which informs his editing approach. To learn more about his background and his approach to photography, check out the video below. You can follow Eric Rubens’ work on Instagram.
