In the recent release of Adobe Photoshop, which is called Photoshop CC 2019, there was a big update to a tool called “content-aware fill.” In his newest video going in depth with Photoshop CC 2019, Colin Smith of PhotoshopCAFE breaks down the changes Adobe has made to content-aware fill and also discusses how you can get the best results with the tool.

In his first example, Smith is working with a stock photo of a pizza. The pizza has olives on it and Smith wants to remove these olives. The first step is to select all of the olives, which can be done with a pretty quick lasso tool selection, holding shift to add new selections to the group. After selecting all the olives, you go to Edit and then scroll down to Content-Aware Fill. The new workspace for content-aware fill shows us a real-time masked preview, a smaller version of the image without the mask, and a pane with many options. The options to the right are what will allow us to get the best results possible. To learn how to work within the content-aware workspace, watch Smith’s video below.
