Leica Q3 43 Formula 1 Edition Brings Racing-Inspired Carbon Fiber Design

Leica and Formula 1 have partnered to release a limited edition version of the Leica Q3 43, adding motorsport-inspired styling, carbon fiber components, and exclusive branding to the full-frame compact camera. The Leica Q3 43 Formula 1 Edition retains the standard model’s imaging hardware while introducing distinctive materials and accessories inspired by the world of racing.

Carbon Fiber and Racing-Inspired Details

The Leica Q3 43 Formula 1 Edition features a black Microvelour body covering, a material also used on motorsport steering wheels. Carbon fiber components, manufactured in Germany, appear on the hand grip, thumb rest, and soft-release button.

Leica says the carbon fiber parts are precisely shaped for their intended functions, with their intricate surface finishes connecting the camera’s design to motorsport engineering.

The soft shutter-release button and the right-hand function button integrated into the thumb rest feature Formula 1 red accents. The bright color provides a visual contrast against the camera’s predominantly black finish.

Wireless Charging Grip and Custom Leica Look

The limited edition camera comes with a specially designed carbon fiber hand grip that draws inspiration from racing. In addition to improving handling, the grip supports wireless charging and includes an Arca-Swiss mount for attaching the camera to compatible tripods.

When paired with Leica’s Drop XL Wireless Charger, the camera begins charging when placed on the charging pad.

Leica has also developed a dedicated Formula 1 Leica Look, a rendering designed to evoke the atmosphere of the racetrack through increased contrast and saturation. Users can transfer the look to the camera through the Leica FOTOS app and apply it to JPEG images.

Finished images can then be transferred to a smartphone through the app for quick sharing.

The Same 60-Megapixel Imaging System

Beyond its special finish and accessories, the Q3 43 Formula 1 Edition retains the specifications of the standard Leica Q3 43. It features a 60-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor paired with Leica’s Maestro image processor.

The camera uses the Leica APO-Summicron 43mm F/2 ASPH lens, giving it a fixed focal length rather than an interchangeable-lens design. The combination of a high-resolution sensor and a 43mm lens remains unchanged in the commemorative edition.

The Leica Q3 43 Formula 1 Edition is priced at $9,950 and is available through B&H Photo. As a limited edition, it combines the existing camera platform with exclusive motorsport-inspired materials, styling, and accessories.
