Insta360 has expanded its wireless audio lineup with the new Insta360 Mic, a more affordable alternative to the company’s Mic Pro. The new wireless microphone retains the lineup’s distinctive customizable E-Ink display while adding microSD card recording, AI noise cancellation, and a claimed wireless transmission range of up to 400 meters.

The Insta360 Mic sits between the higher-end Mic Pro and the lighter Mic Air in the company’s lineup. Unlike the Mic Pro, it does not have built-in storage, instead relying on a microSD card for onboard audio recording.

microSD Recording and Customizable E-Ink Display

Although the Insta360 Mic lacks the Mic Pro’s internal storage, it includes a microSD card slot that supports 32-bit float and 24-bit audio recording. Without a memory card, the transmitter can still send audio through Bluetooth or the included receiver.

The transmitter also retains the customizable E-Ink display found on the Mic Pro. Through the Insta360 app, users can personalize the display with graphics, including logos, emojis, pets, and avatars. They can choose from built-in designs or upload their own images, with additional editing options available in the app before transferring the graphics to the microphone.

The two microphones also differ in their pickup systems. The Mic Pro features a three-microphone array and four pickup modes, while the standard Insta360 Mic uses a single microphone with an omnidirectional pickup pattern.

AI Noise Cancellation and Audio Controls

The Insta360 Mic features AI noise cancellation designed to suppress background noise and make speech clearer. Users can also choose between two gain modes: Auto, which helps prevent clipping, and Dynamic, which balances changes in volume for more consistent loudness.

Three voice tone presets are available: Regular, Rich, and Bright. These give users a straightforward way to adjust the character of their recordings without manually changing multiple audio settings.

400-Meter Wireless Range and Multi-Device Support

Insta360 claims a wireless transmission range of up to 400 meters. The receiver can connect to as many as four transmitters and supports both the standard Mic and Mic Pro transmitters. The Mic transmitter can also send audio to up to four receivers simultaneously, which is useful for multi-camera recording setups.

For compatible Insta360 cameras, the transmitter can connect directly over Bluetooth and record 48kHz audio without a receiver. It can also connect to smartphones and cameras using the included USB-C adapter or a 3.5mm audio cable.

Battery life is rated at up to 13 hours for the transmitter on a single charge. The included charging case provides an additional 21 hours, bringing the combined rated operating time to 34 hours.

Pricing and Availability

The Insta360 Mic is available through the Insta360 online store and B&H Photo. Pricing is as follows:

  • Two transmitters and one receiver: $250
  • One transmitter and one receiver: $140
  • Single transmitter: $80

With its lower entry price, onboard microSD recording, and customizable E-Ink display, the Insta360 Mic offers an alternative for creators who want the company’s wireless microphone features without opting for the more expensive Mic Pro.
