Ricoh has announced the release date for its limited-edition GR IV 30th Anniversary Edition Kit. The special version of the high-end compact camera will be limited to just 6,000 units worldwide and is scheduled to go on sale on October 21, 2026.

The anniversary model commemorates the release of the original GR1 in October 1996, which established the GR series around image quality, quick response, and portability. Three decades later, the GR IV continues that philosophy and has become a popular choice among street photographers.

GR1-Inspired Design

The GR IV 30th Anniversary Edition is based on the standard GR IV but adds several design details inspired by the original GR1.

The camera features a shutter release button and rear buttons using the GR1’s color scheme. It also gets a special-edition ring cap with a diamond-cut finish inspired by the area surrounding the GR1’s lens.

Ricoh designed the diamond-cut surfaces to catch light when the lens is retracted while minimizing unwanted reflections during normal camera operation.

The camera also displays a special power-off graphic when it is switched off, adding another anniversary-specific detail.

Special Edition Accessories

The limited-edition kit includes several accessories created specifically for the 30th anniversary.

These include a genuine leather finger strap engraved with “30th ANNIVERSARY” and a metal hot shoe cover featuring the 30th anniversary logo. The kit also includes 16 different special-edition pin badges.

With only 6,000 kits being produced worldwide, the accessories are likely to become part of the appeal for collectors as well as GR enthusiasts.

GR IVx Is Coming Next Year

The anniversary edition arrives as Ricoh also prepares to expand the GR IV lineup with the upcoming GR IVx. The new variant is expected to feature a 40mm-equivalent F/2.8 lens, giving photographers a narrower field of view than the GR IV.

The two cameras are aimed at somewhat different shooting styles. The standard GR IV’s wider perspective is well suited to street photography and everyday snapshots, while a 40mm-equivalent lens can provide a more natural perspective for portraits and general-purpose photography.

For photographers considering a GR IV, the choice could therefore come down to whether they want the limited-edition design and accessories of the 30th Anniversary Edition or prefer to wait for the GR IVx.

Pricing and Availability

Ricoh has not yet announced pricing for the GR IV 30th Anniversary Edition Kit. Given its limited production run and special-edition accessories, it is expected to command a premium over the standard GR IV.

The GR IV 30th Anniversary Edition Kit will be available worldwide starting October 21, 2026, with production limited to 6,000 units.
