It is a big day for Sigma, with the company announcing two new lenses. Alongside the flagship 85mm F/1.2 DG ART, Sigma has introduced the new 20-60mm F/2.8-4 DG Contemporary zoom lens.

The new 20-60mm F/2.8-4 is a versatile and compact full-frame zoom that combines ultra-wide coverage with a fast maximum aperture. The lens will initially be available for Sony E and Leica L mounts.

Ultra-Wide to Standard Coverage

The 20-60mm range covers everything from a 20mm ultra-wide perspective to a standard 60mm focal length. This makes the lens suitable for travel, landscapes, architecture, street photography, and portraits.

The lens starts at F/2.8 at the 20mm end, providing a relatively fast aperture for indoor low-light photography and nightscapes. When mounted on an APS-C camera, the lens provides an equivalent focal range of approximately 30-90mm.

15-Element Optical Design

The Sigma 20-60mm F/2.8-4 uses 15 elements arranged in 13 groups, including three SLD and three aspherical elements. Sigma says the optical design provides consistent sharpness throughout the zoom range while helping minimize flare and ghosting.

The lens uses a nine-bladed aperture diaphragm designed to produce round bokeh points of light.

Fast Autofocus and Half-Macro Capability

Autofocus is driven by a high-response Linear Actuator, which Sigma says provides fast and precise focusing along with strong subject-tracking performance.

The lens can focus as close as 15.8cm at 28mm and achieves a maximum magnification ratio of 1:2.3 at 35mm. This gives the lens a useful close-up capability approaching half-macro performance.

The 20-60mm is also designed with video in mind. Sigma says the lens minimizes focus breathing when shifting focus, allowing for more natural-looking focus pulls during video recording.

Compact and Lightweight

Despite its versatile zoom range, the lens measures just 88mm in length and weighs 375g. This makes it particularly well suited to travel and everyday photography where keeping the size and weight of a camera kit down is important.

The lens features a dust- and splash-resistant structure for additional protection when shooting outdoors. Its front element also features a coating designed to repel oil and water.

The lens comes with a dedicated hood and uses 67mm filter threads.

Pricing and Availability

The Sigma 20-60mm F/2.8-4 DG Contemporary is now available for pre-order from B&H Photo for $849.

The lens will be available for Sony E and Leica L mounts, with shipping expected to begin on October 6, 2026.
