TTArtisan has expanded its growing Air Series lineup with the launch of the AF 17mm F/1.8 Air for Nikon Z APS-C mirrorless cameras. The lens arrives three months after its debut on Sony E and Fujifilm X mounts, giving Nikon users another affordable autofocus prime option for everyday photography.
Designed for cameras such as the Nikon Zfc, Z50 II, and Z30, the new lens combines a lightweight design with a fast maximum aperture, making it well suited for travel, street photography, landscapes, and video content creation.
A Compact Wide-Angle Prime
Mounted on Nikon APS-C bodies, the 17mm focal length provides a 25.5mm full-frame equivalent field of view. This versatile perspective is ideal for environmental portraits, street photography, travel, documentary work, and vlogging.
The bright F/1.8 aperture also makes the lens suitable for low-light shooting while providing enough background separation for more creative compositions.
The Nikon Z version retains the same optical formula as the Sony E and Fujifilm X variants, featuring 14 elements in 10 groups. The design incorporates three high-refractive-index elements and two extra-low dispersion elements to help control chromatic aberration while improving contrast and overall image quality.
The lens uses a 6-blade aperture diaphragm, producing smooth out-of-focus backgrounds despite its compact design.
Autofocus and Handling
Autofocus is powered by a stepping motor (STM) that promises fast, quiet, and accurate focusing for both still photography and video recording. The lens also features an internal focusing design, meaning its physical length remains unchanged during focusing.
It can focus as close as 0.18 meters, making it suitable for close-up compositions and emphasizing foreground subjects with its wide-angle perspective.
As part of TTArtisan’s Air Series, portability is a major focus. The AF 17mm F/1.8 weighs just 161 grams and measures 47mm long, making it an ideal everyday carry lens for Nikon’s compact APS-C mirrorless cameras.
Despite its lightweight construction, the lens features an all-metal barrel for added durability. Controls are intentionally simple, with a manual focus ring on the lens while aperture adjustments are handled through the camera body. The lens also accepts standard 52mm filters.
Pricing and Availability
The TTArtisan AF 17mm F/1.8 Air for Nikon Z mount is available now for $148 through the TTArtisan online store and major retailers including B&H Photo. Sony E and Fujifilm X versions remain available at the same price.
