Why We Like the Fujifilm X100VI
The X100VI features a 40.2MP APS-C sensor that delivers plenty of detail for both photography and video. It can record 6.2K video and offers 4K recording for shooters who don’t need the higher resolution.
Its built-in image stabilization is rated for up to 6 stops, helping reduce the effects of camera shake when shooting handheld. This is particularly useful with the camera’s fixed f/2 lens when working in lower-light conditions.
Fujifilm’s Film Simulation modes are another major attraction. The X100VI includes 20 Film Simulation options, giving photographers a variety of distinctive looks straight out of the camera and reducing the need for extensive editing.
The camera features Fujifilm’s hybrid viewfinder, allowing you to switch between an optical viewfinder and an electronic viewfinder depending on how you prefer to compose your images. Its subject-detection autofocus can recognize a variety of subjects, including people, animals, birds, vehicles, and other moving subjects.
Physical exposure controls give the X100VI a traditional photography experience, with dedicated dials for settings such as shutter speed and exposure compensation. At approximately 521 grams, it’s also compact enough to carry comfortably throughout the day, while its understated design makes it less conspicuous than a larger interchangeable-lens camera.
What to Consider Before Buying
The X100VI’s fixed 23mm f/2 lens is one of its defining characteristics, but it also means you can’t swap lenses. Fujifilm does offer accessories such as conversion lenses if you want different perspectives, but these require additional purchases.
The camera is not fully weather-resistant on its own. Fujifilm offers an optional weather-sealing solution, so photographers who regularly shoot in rain, dust, or other challenging conditions should factor that into their budget.
Battery life is another consideration for longer shooting sessions. The X100VI uses Fujifilm’s NP-W126S battery, so carrying a spare is a good idea if you plan to spend a full day shooting away from a charger.
At $2,127 for Prime Day, the X100VI is still a significant investment, but the 5% discount gives photographers a chance to pick up a premium compact camera with a high-resolution sensor, excellent Film Simulations, hybrid viewfinder, and built-in stabilization for less.
