Why We Like the DJI Flip

The DJI Flip packs capable imaging hardware into a portable design. Its 1/1.3-inch sensor captures 48MP photos and 4K video at up to 60fps, giving you flexibility when shooting landscapes, travel footage, and social media content. Its color profiles also offer options for producing vibrant footage without extensive editing.

One of the Flip’s biggest advantages is its ease of use. You can launch it directly from your palm using its dedicated controls, while intelligent tracking modes help keep a selected subject in the frame. These features make it useful for solo creators who want to film themselves hiking, cycling, or exploring without needing another person to operate the drone.

The built-in propeller guards help protect the propellers during flight, and the foldable design makes the drone convenient to pack for trips. DJI advertises up to 31 minutes of flight time per charge under specified conditions, although actual flight time will vary with wind, temperature, and how you fly.

What to Consider Before Buying

The DJI Flip has limited obstacle-sensing capabilities, so you’ll need to pay attention to your surroundings and avoid flying near power lines, buildings, trees, and other hazards. Its propeller guards offer some protection, but they don’t make the drone collision-proof or protect every part of the camera.

Battery life is another consideration. Although DJI advertises up to 31 minutes under ideal test conditions, active flight time can be shorter in everyday use. If you plan to shoot for extended periods, consider whether additional batteries are available in your chosen package.

Finally, the drone’s sub-249-gram weight does not automatically exempt it from registration or other requirements everywhere. Rules depend on your location and how you use the drone, so check local regulations before flying.

For travelers and content creators who want a portable drone with 4K video, intelligent tracking, and built-in propeller guards, the DJI Flip offers an appealing feature set at $349.
