If the popularity of pocket zoom and superzoom cameras on our site is any indication at all, there are a number of you readers out there who crave zoom range in a reasonably small package. Well, we're here to tell you that we're with you, as most of us at IR are admitted addicts ourselves.

So when the Canon SX720 finally shattered the 30x barrier for a pocket zoom and boasted a 40x, 24-960mm equivalent zoom range, we were certainly eager to see what the images would look like. In April we unveiled our lab test First Shots for you, and we've now completed our first Field Test in order to give you a good idea of what to expect from the SX720 out in the real world and across that generous 40x zoom range.
