Two Minute Tips with David Bergman: When shooting action, sometimes single-shot mode is better

When shooting sports or other fast-paced action, it makes sense to shoot in a burst mode, right? Photographer and educator David Bergman suggests in the latest episode of Adorama's Two Minute Tips that it sometimes makes more sense to shoot in single frames when photographing action. Let's find out why in the video below.

Even when using a very fast camera such as the Canon EOS 1DX Mark II Bergman uses in the video, you don't always need to shoot bursts. If you shoot at 14 frames per second or a similarly-quick pace, you'll have many shots to choose from and be able to select the frame that captures the action exactly how you want it. However, sometimes action is so fast that even if you fire off a fast burst, you might still not get the frame you want. For example, Bergman wants to photograph a tennis player at the exact moment the ball is hitting the face of the racket. When you want a very specific moment that even fast speeds cannot reliably capture, Bergman suggests shooting in a single frame capture mode. When shooting in this mode, you will need to be able to nail timing and anticipate action. Learn more in Bergman's video.
