Tokina Opera 50mm f/1.4 now available to order: Premium fast prime begins new high-end lens series

In February, Tokina announced two lenses, including a 50mm f/1.4 lens, which is the first in a new series of “Opera” lenses. After many months, we now have pricing and availability information for the new standard prime lens.

To bring you back up to speed, the Tokina Opera 50mm f/1.4 FF lens will be available in full-frame Canon EF and Nikon F mounts and it features a weather-sealed constructions. The lens has a ring-shaped ultrasonic autofocus motor to provide quick and quiet focusing performance. With cameras today offering high-megapixel image sensors, Tokina has also revised the optical design to offer sharper images. The lens is now available for preorder ahead of its late October/early November release. The lens will cost $949 USD for both Canon and Nikon mounts. The series, which as mentioned is starting with the new 50mm f/1.4 lens, is a new premium series of optics designed for high-end full-frame DSLR cameras. The Opera series lenses will incorporate Tokina’s latest and most advanced optical technologies and features, including the a ring-shaped ultrasonic focusing motor and Tokina’s new ELR lens coating.
