A teaser for a new 7Artisans pancake lens for APS-C mirrorless cameras has been spotted online. The upcoming 18mm F/2.0 Lite is set to join the company’s growing lineup of compact autofocus primes, with a particularly lightweight design that should make it a good match for smaller camera bodies.

The lens was first spotted in a leaked image back in May, but there were some questions about whether it would have autofocus. A new teaser shared by Fuji Rumors appears to clear that up, confirming that the lens belongs to 7Artisans’ Lite series, which consists of autofocus lenses.

A 27mm-Equivalent Wide-Angle Prime

The 18mm focal length gives the lens a 27mm full-frame equivalent field of view, putting it firmly in wide-angle territory without going to the extreme.

That makes it a versatile option for landscapes, architecture, travel and everyday photography. The F/2.0 maximum aperture should also make the lens useful for low-light shooting, allowing photographers to maintain faster shutter speeds or lower ISO settings when lighting gets dim.

The 18mm F/2.0 Lite will join the existing AF 25mm F/1.8 Lite and AF 50mm F/1.8 Lite in the company’s lineup.

Autofocus and Lightweight Design

According to the information shared online, the 7Artisans AF 18mm F/2.0 Lite will use an STM autofocus motor, consistent with the other lenses in the Lite series.

The biggest selling point could be its size. The pancake lens is reportedly just 109g, which is impressively light for an F/2.0 prime with autofocus. This makes it particularly well-suited to compact APS-C cameras from Sony, Nikon and Fujifilm, which are the mounts expected to receive the new lens.

Dedicated Aperture Ring

The teaser image also reveals some of the controls on the lens barrel. The 18mm F/2.0 Lite appears to have both a dedicated aperture ring and manual focus ring.

The aperture ring uses one-stop increments, running from F/2.0 to F/16, giving photographers direct control over the aperture without relying on the camera’s command dials.

Pricing and Availability

There is currently no pricing or official launch date for the 7Artisans 18mm F/2.0 Lite. However, the new teaser confirms that the autofocus pancake lens is on its way, and more details should be revealed soon.
