Another new camera could be difficult to get on time. OM System has warned Japanese customers that strong pre-order demand for its recently announced PEN mirrorless camera could result in delivery delays stretching into spring 2027 or later.

According to 43 Rumors, OM System Japan issued a notice apologizing for the delays and confirming that some customers who have already placed pre-orders could face a considerable wait.

The camera is scheduled for release on October 30, 2026, but the company says it has received a very large number of pre-orders and may not be able to fulfill all orders promptly.

“We have received a very large number of preorders for the OM SYSTEM PEN. Even customers who have already placed their orders are expected to face a considerable wait before receiving their products,” the company said in its notice.

OM System added that it is making every effort to deliver orders as quickly as possible.

Some Models and Colors Could Take Months Longer

The warning covers the PEN body in both black and silver, the 14-42mm F/3.5-5.6 III lens kit, and the Double Zoom kit, which also includes the 40-150mm F/4-5.6 R lens. The BLS-7 rechargeable battery and BCS-7 battery charger are also listed among the products that could face extended delivery times.

Depending on the product type and color, customers who have already placed their orders may not receive their purchases until spring 2027 or later. The notice does not specify exactly which configurations will face the longest waits.

The announcement suggests that demand has exceeded the supply available for at least some versions of the camera. However, OM System has not said whether the delays are limited to Japan or whether other markets could face similar shortages.

Will U.S. Customers Also Face Delays?

In the U.S., pre-orders remain available through retailers such as B&H Photo, which lists an estimated shipping date of October 14, 2026. The retailer has not announced a corresponding delay, although the situation could change as the launch approaches. B&H Photo currently shows the body-only model available for pre-order.

It remains unclear whether U.S. retailers have sufficient initial inventory to meet demand or whether their allocations will also be affected. The Japanese announcement alone does not confirm a worldwide delay.

The situation is worth watching, particularly as the camera joins a growing list of new releases facing shipping uncertainty. Sony’s FX5 cinema camera has also faced a widely reported delay, with reports pointing to a possible LCD assembly issue. Sony has acknowledged production and quality-control issues, but the specific cause has not been officially confirmed.

Pricing and Availability

The OM System PEN starts at $999.99 for the body only and is available for pre-order from B&H Photo. The kit with the 14-42mm F/3.5-5.6 III lens costs $1,099.99, while the Double Zoom kit, which adds the 40-150mm F/4-5.6 R lens, costs $1,299.99.

OM System Japan has set October 30, 2026, as the release date, but some Japanese customers could wait until spring 2027 or later to receive their orders. The company has not confirmed whether the same delays will affect U.S. or other international shipments.
