With much of the smartphone world focused on the newly released iPhone 18 Pro, attention is already turning toward Samsung’s next flagship. New leaks have revealed additional details about the Galaxy S27 Ultra, including its rumored camera system, display, and processor.
According to well-known leaker Roland Quandt, the Galaxy S27 Ultra will feature a 50-megapixel telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom and a Sony sensor. The claim conflicts with earlier reports that Samsung was developing a 4x telephoto camera with a much larger 1/1.9-inch-type sensor. Another prominent leaker, Ice Universe, has also pushed back against the 4x rumor.
A 50MP 5x Telephoto Camera
The Galaxy S27 Ultra is reportedly set to retain a dedicated 50MP 5x optical telephoto camera, although the underlying sensor specifications have not yet been confirmed.
Previous reports claimed that Samsung was developing a 4x telephoto camera using a 1/1.9-inch sensor, which would have represented a significant change to the company’s approach to its long-range camera. The latest information instead points toward a 5x optical design with a Sony sensor.
It is still unclear whether the rumored 5x camera will use substantially different hardware from the Galaxy S26 Ultra. The exact Sony sensor, aperture, stabilization system, and other optical specifications have not been revealed.
Don’t believe that source, which has a long history of spreading false information.
The Galaxy S27 Ultra will, of course, continue to use a 1/2.52-inch sensor for its 5x periscope telephoto camera.

A 50MP Ultrawide and New Selfie Camera
Quandt also claims the Galaxy S27 Ultra will feature a 50MP ultrawide camera, matching the resolution of the current flagship’s ultrawide camera. However, the same resolution does not necessarily mean Samsung will use identical hardware, with earlier reports pointing to a new Sony sensor for the ultrawide.
The more obvious front-facing upgrade could come from the selfie camera. The Galaxy S27 Ultra is reportedly getting a 16MP front camera with autofocus, up from the 12MP resolution of the S26 Ultra.
Autofocus itself would not be new, however, as the Galaxy S26 Ultra already offers autofocus on its front camera. The rumored upgrade is primarily the move to a higher-resolution sensor.
Could Samsung Drop the 3x Telephoto?
Leaked renderings have also fueled speculation that Samsung could eliminate the dedicated 10MP 3x telephoto camera, leaving the S27 Ultra with a three-camera rear system.
That would represent a notable change from the current approach and could bring Samsung’s camera layout closer to phones such as the iPhone 18 Pro Max, which rely on fewer dedicated rear cameras while using computational photography and sensor cropping to cover additional focal lengths.
However, the exact final camera configuration remains unconfirmed. Earlier reporting has suggested that Samsung has been testing different prototypes, so the leaked renders should not be treated as definitive evidence of the final hardware.
Samsung’s New M16 OLED Display
Beyond the cameras, the Galaxy S27 Ultra is rumored to use Samsung’s new M16 OLED panel. The panel offers a WQHD resolution of 2,560 x 1,440, a variable refresh rate of up to 165Hz, and a touch sampling rate of up to 5,000Hz.
The display is also rumored to use an anti-reflective coating and a polarizer-free construction that integrates RGB color filters directly over the OLED material.
Samsung Display gave its currently most advanced OLED panel, the M16 OLED, to three flagship devices: the iPhone Duo, the Galaxy S27 Pro / Ultra, and the iQOO 16.

Snapdragon or Exynos?
The Galaxy S27 Ultra is also expected to use a next-generation flagship processor, although Samsung may continue its strategy of offering different chips depending on the market.
Some reports point to Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, while other rumors suggest Samsung could use its own Exynos 2700 in certain regions. Samsung has not confirmed either configuration, so the final processor lineup remains unclear.
Pricing and Availability
Samsung has not announced the Galaxy S27 Ultra, and its specifications, pricing, and availability remain unconfirmed.
The Galaxy S27 series is currently expected to be announced in early 2027, with some reports pointing to a February announcement and March availability. The base S27 Ultra is rumored to start at around $1,299 to $1,399 with 256GB of storage, although pricing this far ahead of launch should be treated as speculation.
