Sony has been expected to announce three new lenses this month, but the company has so far unveiled only the FE 8-14mm F/3.5 G Fisheye lens. Now, a new report suggests that two additional lenses could be announced this week.
According to a report from Sony Alpha Rumors, Sony is expected to announce the FE 400mm F/4.5 GM OSS and FE 600mm F/6.3 GM OSS on September 15, 2026. The reported announcement is scheduled for between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. BST.
The two lenses were initially rumored to debut alongside the FE 8-14mm F/3.5 G last week. It remains unclear whether their announcement was delayed or if Sony simply planned to spread its lens announcements throughout September.
Sony FE 400mm F/4.5 GM OSS
The Sony FE 400mm F/4.5 GM OSS is reportedly designed to be a relatively compact and lightweight super-telephoto prime.
According to the report, the lens will measure 108 x 242mm and weigh 994 grams. This would make it around 14% lighter than the Nikon Z 400mm F/4.5 VR S, potentially making it more comfortable to carry during long shooting sessions.
The lens is also reportedly not equipped with a drop-in filter system. Pricing is expected to fall between $2,699 and $2,899, which would make it around $500 cheaper than its Nikon counterpart.
Sony FE 600mm F/6.3 GM OSS
The rumored FE 600mm F/6.3 GM OSS is similarly expected to emphasize portability despite its long focal length.
The lens is reportedly 108 x 263mm and weighs approximately 995 grams. According to the report, that would make it around 28.4% lighter than the Nikon Z 600mm F/6.3 VR S.
The lens is also said to have a 2.5-meter close focusing distance, while its estimated price is around $3,800. If accurate, that would put it approximately $1,300 below Nikon’s equivalent lens.
Sony Expands Its Telephoto Lineup
Sony’s push to expand its telephoto offerings has become increasingly evident this year, with the company already announcing two telephoto zoom lenses.
If the latest report is accurate, the FE 400mm F/4.5 GM OSS and FE 600mm F/6.3 GM OSS would give Sony shooters two additional prime telephoto options, particularly for wildlife, sports and other subjects where reach and portability are important.
For now, however, the specifications, pricing and announcement date remain rumored and have not been officially confirmed by Sony.
