Why We Like the Insta360 X5

The Insta360 X5 makes it easy to capture footage first and choose your framing later. Its 8K 360-degree recording captures the entire scene around the camera, letting you select viewing angles and reframe clips in the Insta360 app after shooting. You could record a cycling trip, for example, and later create both horizontal videos and vertical clips for TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts.

Its two Pro Imaging Chips and dedicated AI chip work together to process footage, improve image quality, and support better low-light performance than previous X-series models. FlowState stabilization helps smooth out footage during movement, making the X5 useful for cycling, running, hiking, and other outdoor activities.

The camera is also waterproof to a depth of 49 feet (15 meters) without a separate dive case, making it suitable for swimming and underwater adventures within its rated limits. For deeper dives, a compatible dive case is available separately.

The Essentials Bundle adds practical accessories to the package. Two batteries give you more flexibility for longer outings, while the fast-charge case helps replenish power between shoots. The selfie stick is especially useful for 360-degree footage, as it can largely disappear from the final reframed view when positioned correctly.

What to Consider Before Buying

Recording 8K 360-degree video produces large files, so make sure you have enough storage space and a suitable workflow for transferring and editing footage. Reframing also takes additional time compared with recording a conventional video directly in your intended composition.

Battery life varies depending on resolution, frame rate, temperature, and other settings. Although the X5 offers extended recording modes, demanding settings can consume power more quickly. The second battery in this bundle helps, but it won’t eliminate the need to manage power during long shooting sessions.

The camera can also become warm during extended recording, particularly in demanding conditions. Finally, while 360-degree capture offers tremendous framing flexibility, the final exported video uses only part of the original spherical image, so its effective resolution will depend on how you crop the footage.

If you want to capture immersive 360-degree footage and reframe it for different platforms, the Insta360 X5 Essentials Bundle offers a compelling collection of accessories for $559.
