Camp Snap has followed up its popular CS-8 retro camcorder with an even smaller model. The new Camp Snap CS-8 Mini is less than half the size of the original, while retaining its distinctive retro video features and screen-free design.
The company is positioning the new camera as a more accessible option for children, with a smaller body designed to fit comfortably in younger hands. It also retains the simple recording experience that helped make the original CS-8 popular among both children and adults.
āSome kids build forts. Some build worlds. Now they can film it all. Inspired by our original Super 8-style, CS-8, reimagined at less than half the size for smaller hands,ā the company wrote.
Compact Design With 2.7K Video Recording
The CS-8 Mini can record video at up to 2.7K resolution using a 1/2.7-inch sensor. Like the original, it does not have a conventional rear display. Instead, users compose their shots through an electronic viewfinder.
Its biggest selling point is its compact size. The camera measures 152mm along its longest dimension, 141mm wide, and 50mm thick. It weighs just 262g, making it considerably easier to carry than the original CS-8.
Camp Snap says the smaller design is intended for children, but the cameraās portability also makes it suitable for travel. That fits the companyās original concept of creating simple cameras that can be brought along on summer camps and other adventures.
Retro Controls and Screen-Free Shooting

Despite its smaller body, the CS-8 Mini retains the original cameraās trigger-style recording control and retro-inspired dials. One of the dials allows users to change the aspect ratio, while the battery-life and memory-card indicators have been redesigned to fit the smaller camera.
The camera also retains five vintage film filters and four aspect ratios, giving users several ways to change the look of their footage without relying on post-processing.
Camp Snap has also moved away from the originalās more traditional black-and-silver appearance. The CS-8 Mini comes in four brighter color options: Blue, Green, Orange, and Pink.
A Retro Camcorder That Appeals to Adults, Too
Although Camp Snap is marketing the CS-8 Mini toward children, the original CS-8 has also found an audience among adults drawn to its vintage video aesthetic and deliberately simple shooting experience.
Celebrities such as Taylor Swift and members of the US Menās Hockey Team have reportedly used the camera to capture behind-the-scenes content.
The smaller CS-8 Mini could broaden that appeal, offering the same screen-free approach in a more portable package.
Pricing and Availability
The Camp Snap CS-8 Mini is priced at $149.99 and is now available through the Camp Snap website and major retailers.
