Fujifilm has temporarily suspended orders for the Instax Square SQ1 after demand for the instant camera continued to exceed production capacity. Despite launching in 2020 and being succeeded by the Instax Square SQ40 in 2023, the SQ1 remains one of the companyās most sought-after instant cameras.
The Instax Square SQ1 has become increasingly difficult to find at major retailers over the past several months, with stock regularly selling out. Fujifilm has now confirmed that it can no longer keep up with demand and has paused new orders until further notice.
It is worth noting that the Instax Square SQ1 has not been discontinued. Instead, Fujifilm says demand has significantly exceeded expectations, making it difficult to maintain sufficient inventory.
Fujifilm Confirms Supply Shortage
In a statement shared by Fuji Rumors, Fujifilm acknowledged the ongoing supply issues and apologized to customers affected by the shortage.
āWe would like to express our sincere gratitude for your continued patronage of Fujifilm products.
Regarding the āInstax SQUARE SQ1,ā sales have continued to far exceed initial expectations, resulting in a situation where production cannot keep up. Because it is difficult to ensure sufficient supply, we will temporarily suspend order acceptance starting today. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause our customers. At this time, the resumption date for orders is undecided, but we will announce any updates on our website.
We kindly ask for your understanding.ā
Fujifilm has not provided an explanation for the sudden increase in demand, although it coincides with the continued resurgence of instant and analog photography among younger photographers, content creators, and casual users. The SQ1ās straightforward point-and-shoot design and one-button operation make it particularly appealing to those looking for a simple instant camera experience without the learning curve of traditional film photography.

Why the SQ1 Remains Popular
One of the SQ1ās biggest advantages is its use of Instax Square film, which produces 1:1 format prints that are noticeably larger than Instax Mini photos. The larger format offers more room for compositions while maintaining the distinctive instant film aesthetic.
The camera also features automatic exposure, allowing it to meter scenes and adjust exposure settings automatically. Combined with its minimalist controls and clean design, the SQ1 remains an attractive option for beginners and casual photographers.
Pricing and Availability
The Fujifilm Instax Square SQ1 has an official retail price of $119.95. However, limited availability has pushed prices significantly higher, with some third-party sellers listing the camera for around $198. Fujifilm has not announced when order acceptance will resume.
