Live Tradeshow Coverage
February 20-23, 2005 Orange County Convention Center, FL

Welcome to Imaging Resource’s Live PMA 2005 Tradeshow Coverage. PMA is the camera industry's most important show of the year, and we covered it like never before. You may have noticed slight delay in getting some of the usual information up, which was due to our behind-the-scenes efforts to be more thorough than ever. As you can now see, that included the ambitious goal of producing streaming videos to give our readers the feeling of being at the show. There were a few snags along the way, but that's to be expected in any new venture. Thanks to our friends at CamcorderInfo.com and DigitalCameraInfo.com for helping us up that learning curve. We've learned a lot, and hope to continue offering similar coverage of important events in the future. Meanwhile, we have a pile of products yet to post, along with more videos in the queue, so stay tuned. Check back often and feel free to look in the forums to discuss the latest news, photos, and videos.

Sony's Cyber-shot DSC-H1 digital camera. Courtesy of Sony, with modifications by Michael R. Tomkins. Sony announces long-zoom DSC-H1

16:00 EST - Sony USA has today announced its new DSC-H1 digital camera, a model that marks a step into territory from which they've been conspicuously absent until now - the so-called "SLR-style" long-zoom high-resolution digital camera.

Sony has certainly had its share of long-zoom digital cameras, but those models have either been models from the company's Mavica series (known for their floppy diskette-based storage and relatively low resolutions), or models like the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-F828 which have featured mid-range 5 to 7x optical zooms and high resolution, and a swivelling body design. The Sony Cyber-shot DSC-H1 is the first... (More)

Sony's Cyber-shot DSC-W7 digital camera. Courtesy of Sony, with modifications by Michael R. Tomkins. Sony announces two new W-series Cyber-shots

16:00 EST - Sony USA has today taken the wraps of its Cyber-shot DSC-W5 and DSC-W7 digital cameras.

The DSC-W5 may seem familiar, as it was already announced by Sony Europe a couple of weeks ago. The W7 is largely similar to that model, but with the inclusion of a seven megapixel CCD sensor in place of the W5's five megapixel imager. The new models hint to the success of Sony's existing Cyber-shot DSC-W1 model, which launched the W series - and apparently persuaded Sony to expand the W series from... (More)

Sony's Cyber-shot DSC-S60 digital camera. Courtesy of Sony, with modifications by Michael R. Tomkins. Sony announces Cyber-shot S60, S90

16:00 EST - As part of a batch of new digital camera announcements for this year's Photo Marketing Association tradeshow in Orlando, Florida, Sony has unveiled its new Syber-shot DSC-S60 and DSC-S90 models.

The cameras are closely related, with both featuring a similar body design, Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar 3x optical zoom lens, and four megapixel imager. Unusually (and we'd say laudably, given the fact that it flies in the face of the common-place industry practice of creating multiple models with no difference beyond their imager resolution), Sony has chosen to differentiate the cameras based on their... Other features include an eye-level viewfinder, 1.5" LCD, 32MB of internal memory, and a Memory Stick slot. The internal memory is fully addressable, meaning that you can copy images from memory to Memory Stick, or transfer them from the internal memory to a computer... (More)
