Brightin Star has expanded its growing lineup of manual-focus lenses with the introduction of the new MF 14mm F/2.8. Designed for full-frame mirrorless cameras, the ultra-wide prime is available for Sony E, Nikon Z, Canon RF, and Leica L mounts.

Positioned as an affordable option for landscape, architecture, astrophotography, and nightscape photography, the new lens delivers a dramatic 116-degree field of view while maintaining a relatively compact and lightweight design.

Ultra-Wide Perspective for Landscapes and Astrophotography

The 14mm focal length allows photographers to capture expansive scenes in a single frame, making it ideal for sweeping landscapes, dramatic architecture, and immersive travel photography. Combined with its bright F/2.8 aperture, the lens is also well-suited for shooting starscapes and other low-light scenes.

Brightin Star says the lens has been specifically optimized for astrophotography, with optical corrections designed to suppress coma and astigmatism. This helps stars remain more point-like toward the edges of the frame rather than stretching into distorted shapes.

Advanced Optical Design

The optical formula consists of 13 elements arranged in 9 groups, including two aspherical elements, five high-refractive-index elements, and three extra-low dispersion elements.

According to the company, the design delivers excellent sharpness across the frame while keeping chromatic aberrations and distortion under control. Brightin Star claims the lens achieves near-zero distortion, an impressive feat for a lens this wide.

The lens also utilizes the company’s Nano IMC coating technology to reduce flare and ghosting while maintaining contrast and accurate color reproduction when shooting in challenging lighting conditions.

A 10-blade aperture diaphragm helps create attractive 10-point sunstars when shooting at smaller apertures.

Manual Focus with Close-Focusing Capability

The MF 14mm F/2.8 is a fully manual lens and can focus as close as 0.2 meters. This allows photographers to create dramatic compositions by placing subjects close to the lens while still capturing a large portion of the surrounding environment.

The lens features a clicked aperture ring for tactile exposure adjustments and precise control during shooting.

Built-In Filter Solution

One of the more unique features of the new lens is its detachable filter holder system.

Ultra-wide lenses with bulbous front elements typically require large and often expensive square filter systems to accommodate neutral density or graduated filters. Brightin Star’s solution allows photographers to attach standard 82mm filters directly to the lens using the included filter holder, providing a more compact and affordable alternative.

This could be particularly useful for landscape photographers who regularly work with ND and graduated ND filters.

Compact and Lightweight Design

Despite its wide-angle coverage and bright aperture, the MF 14mm F/2.8 remains relatively portable. The lens measures approximately 80mm in length, including the built-in lens hood, and weighs 518g.

Its compact dimensions make it a practical option for photographers who want an ultra-wide prime without carrying the bulk typically associated with professional wide-angle zooms.
